Louisiana Steel is a world leader in providing high-performance custom tubing solutions for the Oil, Gas, Construction and Mining industries, as well as a key supplier to international steel distributors and manufacturers. Our custom steel can be found in a variety of applications, including automotive transports, emergency vehicles, crane booms, oil rigs, and mining support systems.

Below we have highlighted our latest company developments, benchmark achievements and related news from our business sector. Check this section regularly to see what’s new with Louisiana Steel and our industry.

Ellwood Works Draw Bench
Recently Louisiana Steel acquired one of the two big draw benches that occupied the Ellwood Works from the early 1940’s. The Ellwood Works was run by National Tube, a division of US Steel. For decades National Tube produced quality cold drawn tubing for the domestic metals industry. The two big draw benches had the distinction of being two of the largest cold drawn benches of their kind in this country. The acquisition of this draw bench will enable Louisiana Steel to produce DOM and CDSMLS tubing, as well as HEX ID and other custom tubing shapes.

Harris Tube Bench
Harris Tube produced custom square and rectangular shapes for decades prior to their closing in the mid-1990’s. The draw bench used to manufacture these tubes was recently acquired by Louisiana Steel. The Harris Tube draw bench will complement Louisiana’s #2 draw bench very nicely, thus keeping lead times down on the smaller sized products that we produce.

Industry Notes
At the beginning of the new millennium the domestic steel industry experienced a great deal of turmoil. A majority of the steel producers have filed for bankruptcy protection. There has been talk of consolidation and import duties. Many of the producers have simply stopped making steel due to a variety of factors.

Contrary to the industry we are investing in additional equipment and expanding our size range and types of products produced. As a marketer of niche products we are confident in our products and customers, and will continue to reinvest in our company.
